About the Role
From May to December 2026, Künstler:innenhaus Bremen is seeking a Project Assistant on a freelance basis for the funding programme Visiting Curators, a collaborative project between several Bremen-based art organisations.
Established in 2017, the programme provides artists with access to professional exchange with internationally active curators.
The organisation is looking for a motivated project assistant with strong initiative, an interest in contemporary art, and some experience in cultural work and event organisation.
The role offers a collaborative working atmosphere in a creative and interdisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
- Preparation and organisation of the open call for visual artists in Bremen
- Creating and editing project-related texts, graphics, and Reels
- Editing and proofreading:
- Press releases
- Newsletters
- Event flyers
- Communication guidelines
- Social media posts
- Website texts
- Preparing FAQs for applicants
- Reviewing and checking incoming applications
- Organising travel and visit schedules with participating curators
- Communicating with participating artists
- Creating schedules and coordinating assistants for studio visits
- Organising and delivering a networking Get-Together event
- Social media coverage of visits (primarily Instagram)
- Supporting grant reporting and financial documentation
- Project documentation and participant evaluation
Candidate Profile
- Ongoing or completed postgraduate studies (MA or equivalent) in:
- Art History
- Art Theory
- Cultural Studies
- or related fields
- Internship experience in:
- Contemporary exhibition contexts
- Cultural institutions
- Associations or non-profits
- Excellent written and spoken German and English (C1 level)
- Strong computer skills (MS Office, image editing, Zoom or similar)
- Initial experience organising events
- Experience in research and content preparation
- Independent and structured working style
- Strong interest in contemporary art and culture
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills
- Willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends
