The British Museum is seeking a Project Curator to join the Greece and Rome department. The main purpose of this role is to undertake a detailed documentation project on the Museum’s collection of Greek and Roman jewellery and intaglios.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- To work on upgrading of the documentation of the departmental collection of jewellery and intaglios.
- To contribute to storage projects relating to the project.
- To have or develop a good understanding of museums and relevant best practice.
- To assist in the general day-to-day running of the department.
- To assist with enquiries from the public in person, in writing, by telephone and via e-mail.
- To make the collection, and knowledge about it, publicly accessible via publication and digital platforms.
Person Specification:
- Education: BA/BSc (or equivalent) in ‘Classical’ Studies, Archaeology of the Ancient Mediterranean region.
- Specific technical/professional skills & experience: experience of practical working with Greek and Roman artefacts, including research and knowledge of museum documentation standards and systems.
- Specific interpersonal skills: open, effective communicator with good spoken and written English; ability to work as part of a team.
- Publications record: some publications in peer reviewed journals.
