Call for Proposals 2025
Application Period: Open from 15 July to 15 September 2024.
Grant Details: The GPS programme provides up to R 105,000 per project for four artistic projects in rural and peri-urban areas of South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini. Projects must be executed between February and November 2025.
Programme Objectives
The GPS programme aims to support art professionals collaborating with cultural or public spaces in rural and peri-urban areas. For the first time, this call is extended to practitioners from Eswatini and Lesotho. The programme seeks projects that engage communities outside major urban centers, focusing on the production and facilitation of artistic content. Projects fostering collaboration between rural and urban spaces are particularly welcome.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only non-commercial artistic projects occurring between February and November 2025 are eligible.
- Projects must be located outside major urban centers like Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban.
- Project locations can be in South Africa, Lesotho, or Eswatini.
- The project space must have at least a two-year track record.
- Only one proposal per artist, art collective, or art organization will be considered.
Funding Conditions
- The maximum grant amount is R 105,000 per project.
- Projects exceeding this budget must secure additional funding from other sources.
- A clear and viable project plan is required.
- A signed collaboration agreement from the project space is essential.
- The project must engage with communities, preferably outside major urban centers.
Application Checklist
- Project Synopsis: Maximum of 200 words.
- Detailed Project Description: Maximum of 1000 words.
- Project Goals: Short paragraph on goals and methods, maximum of 200 words.
- Project Plan: Including timeline with milestones and promotion strategy, maximum of 500 words.
- Collaborator Biographies: Short descriptions of all involved collaborators, maximum of 500 words.
- Collaboration Agreement: Signed by all collaborators using the provided template.
- Budget Plan: Detailed budget outlining costs and income, using the provided template.
Optional: Supporting material like references, press reviews, or visual documentation (max. 100 MB).
Evaluation Criteria
- Artistic quality and cultural relevance.
- Rootedness in the local community.
- Complete and timely project application.
- Realistic realisation plan, budget, and partnerships.
- Feasibility within the project period.
- Clear engagement with the community.
- Strong partnership between the project and the proposed space.
