The Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung, home to the world’s largest collection on the Bauhaus (1919–1933), is seeking a Project Lead for the Opening and Commissioning of its renovated and expanded museum building, scheduled to open at the end of 2027. The position reports directly to the museum director and plays a central coordinating role in ensuring a successful reopening.
As Project Lead, you will oversee the overall organisational planning for the opening and operational launch of the museum. You will coordinate multiple internal departments and external partners, ensure alignment with strategic goals, and maintain control over timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and continuously adapt the overall organisational plan for the opening and commissioning, aligned with museum leadership (artistic vision, quality, timeline, budget)

Systematically collect, connect, and integrate project plans from all departments (e.g. programme, collection, communication, construction and facility management, visitor services, IT)

Guide and coordinate departments toward a unified overall plan

Take responsibility for internal communication related to the opening, in coordination with the museum director

Identify gaps, risks, and challenges, and develop corrective measures to meet defined goals

Manage budgets and schedules, ensuring reliable project controlling and reporting at all times

Coordinate and communicate with key external partners

Take on individual sub-projects as required and capacity allows
Profile
The ideal candidate:

Holds a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. cultural management, event management) or has equivalent professional experience

Has extensive, proven project management experience, ideally in large-scale cultural projects

Demonstrates high social competence in managing complex stakeholder environments

Maintains oversight, attention to detail, and composure under pressure, working independently and confidently

Has excellent written and spoken German and English

Is proficient with relevant software tools (e.g. MS Project, Asana) and project management methods (e.g. moderation, prioritisation)

Identifies strongly with the mission, values, and goals of the Bauhaus-Archiv; subject-related expertise is an advantage

Is flexible regarding working hours, including evenings and weekends during events
