APS5 Projects Coordinator – National Portrait Gallery, Canberra
Deadline: April 13, 2025
Location: Canberra, Australia (with travel to Brisbane)
Contract: Non-ongoing, part-time (0.8 FTE, 30 hours per week) until June 2026
Position Overview
The National Portrait Gallery is seeking a Projects Coordinator to oversee the development and delivery of an exhibition in collaboration with a partner venue in Brisbane. The role requires close coordination with curators, artists, and community stakeholders, with an emphasis on project management and co-design. The final exhibition will be presented both in Brisbane and at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage exhibition project plans, schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and evaluations.
- Coordinate administrative tasks, including meeting schedules, agendas, and follow-ups.
- Develop relationships with stakeholders, including artists, gallery staff, and community partners.
- Assist with the installation and delivery of exhibitions, including traveling exhibitions.
- Ensure compliance with museum best practices, WHS regulations, and inclusive work policies.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience in museum/gallery exhibition coordination and project management.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively to solve problems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in handling, packing, and installing artworks following museum standards.
- Strong organizational and budgeting skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
