Opportunity Overview

The Euboea Residency 2024 invites artists, designers, thinkers, and researchers interested in exploring peripheries, climate challenges, and interdisciplinary work with local communities. This residency aims to inspire participants to connect their practices with the fragile environment and local communities, emphasizing sustainability, inclusivity, and decolonial thinking.

Themes

  • Peripheries as Spaces of Possibility and Resistance: Exploring growth, experimentation, resistance to societal constructs, and challenging mainstream perceptions.
  • Climate and Environmental Challenges: Addressing the impact of wildfires and other ecological issues affecting Euboea Island and similar regions globally.
  • Interdisciplinary Exploration with Local Communities: Engaging with local agriculturists, ecologists, artists, and more to foster mutual learning and collaboration.

Residency Details

Participants Will Receive:

  • Accommodation in shared housing at Villa M
  • Travel costs (return tickets and local transport)
  • Living costs (660 Euros gross per person)
  • Common workspace
  • Collective learning sessions with local communities
  • Production costs (within a limited budget)
  • Tours of Euboea Island with a local guide

Participants Will:

  • Connect with fellow residents
  • Participate in collective learning sessions by the local community
  • Offer presentations, workshops, or masterclasses to the local community
  • Present creative work at a one-day festival

Application Criteria

Eligibility:

  • Open to individuals or duos (must apply separately and mention their partner)
  • Artists, designers, thinkers, or researchers from any background
  • Must communicate in English and be available to travel to Greece
  • Full-time dedication to the residency is required

Preferred (but not required):

  • Connection to the concept of peripheries
  • Work representing diversity, inclusivity, and decolonial thinking
  • Experience related to environmental sustainability
  • Experience working with communities

Required Documents:

  • Completed application form with a proposal summary
  • Current CV (PDF)
  • Portfolio/work samples (PDFs, weblinks, etc.)
  • Video presentation introducing yourself (3 minutes)

Selection Process

  • Applications are evaluated by the PROSPER partner organizations within 4 weeks after the deadline.
  • Shortlisted applicants are invited for an online conversation before final selection.
  • All applicants receive a response within 2 months after the deadline.
  • Selected participants will sign an agreement with the organizer.
