Public Programmes Curator
CCA Derry~Londonderry is recruiting a Public Programmes Curator. This post works closely with CCA’s Director to devise and deliver world-class, multi-disciplinary public programmes.
CCA’s Public Programmes aim to resonate with our location, inspire imaginations and stimulate discussion and understanding of contemporary visual arts practices and discourses. with participatory workshops, talks, screenings, symposia, commissions, performances and more. CCA’s Public Programmes have two key strands. One strand expands upon and complements the topics, ideas and theoretical frameworks within the CCA’s exhibitions. The other key strand responds to local/global events and developments in contemporary practice as they unfold in real time.
As CCA’s Public Programmes Curator you will bring your knowledge of current art practices and concerns to the role with a sensitivity for context and flair for delivery. You will be passionate about contemporary art and communicating complex ideas through creative means. You will build upon our reputation and continue to develop our Public Programme by working with artists, audiences and practitioners from a range of disciplines, supporting experimentation and emerging practices. You will have a commitment to creating world-class events and programmes accessible to all. You will build upon our relationships with existing groups and forge new connections and partnerships across a wide range of constituents including LGBTQ+ groups, BAME groups, people with disabilities, carers, at risk groups, local schools and colleges, specialist interest groups and more.
Duties of Public Programmes Curator
- Curating and delivering CCA’s Public Programmes working with a wide range of constituents.
- Develop and deliver CCA’s Schools Programme, bringing primary school aged children in our locale to CCA with artist-led workshops.
- Continue and develop relationships with local schools, colleges, community groups, artists, artist educators, other specialists and more.
- Give tours of the exhibitions when required, devising and introducing
- Developing ideas and fundraising applications and initiatives to expand the Public Programmes, working with the Director.
- Working with Public Programming volunteers.
- Assisting with exhibition installation as required.
- Generating material for publicity and working with the Director and Marketing Assistant.
Person Specification
Essential
- Degree in Curatorial Practice, Fine Art, Art History, Theory or Practice, or extensive equivalent experience
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary art and current and emerging practice in public programmes
- Experience working with a wide range of public and community groups
- Minimum of three years’ experience of arts administration, project management and public programming
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational skills and record-keeping
- Good ITC skills with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Docs, social media and Wordpress
- Experience of fundraising and reporting
- Experience of publishing in print and/or online
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written English
- Attention to detail and working to deadline
- Practical skills for delivering workshops and assisting with installation
- Experience working in the charitable sector
- Creative problem-solving and analytical thinker
