The Public Programs Coordinator supports the development, coordination and delivery of PLATFORM’s public programming, community initiatives and artist-centred activities within an artist-run centre focused on photographic and digital arts.
Reporting to the Director and Board of Directors, the role contributes to programming across exhibitions, awards, residencies, workshops, talks, screenings and community events.
About the Role
This role supports PLATFORM’s public-facing programme, including initiatives connected to the Photography Award, Curator-in-Residence Program, Digital Workspace, darkroom facilities and community drop-in sessions.
The coordinator assists with programming logistics, communications, audience engagement, promotional design and event delivery in a flexible, collaborative artist-run environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support public programming and community initiatives
- Assist with programming linked to awards and residency programmes
- Support scheduling for Digital Workspace and darkroom activities
- Coordinate communications for Darkroom Drop-Ins and related committees
- Assist in delivery of talks, workshops, screenings and exhibitions
- Design promotional materials and programming graphics
- Support newsletters, social media and audience outreach
- Manage participant registration and communications
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and programme data
- Support exhibition openings and special events
- Assist with event logistics and scheduling
- Contribute to accessibility and visitor engagement initiatives
- Support general gallery and event operations
- Attend board meetings and contribute reporting as required
Candidate Profile
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in arts, communications or cultural studies
- Experience in event coordination or community programming
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
- Familiarity with Google Suite and social media platforms
- Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills
- Interest in contemporary art and photographic/digital practices
- Experience with darkroom or photography practices is an asset
- Comfort working in artist-run or community-led environments
