The Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art invites applications for publication grants supporting book-length manuscripts, peer-reviewed edited volumes, and in exceptional cases, journal articles. These grants are designed to facilitate the publication of scholarly work on modern art, theory, and visual culture from the late 19th century to the 1960s, across all media and global contexts.
Eligibility
- Open to authors worldwide, primarily for English-language publications (exceptions may be made for other languages).
- Must demonstrate scholarly significance, financial need, and impact on the field.
- A confirmed publisher and evidence of acceptance by an academic press are required.
- Funding supports illustration costs, reproduction rights, diagrams, copy editing, and indexing (not overhead or operational costs).
Application Materials
Applicants must submit:
- A completed application form detailing the financial need and scholarly significance.
- Abstract, book proposal, and sample chapter(s) (max. 10,000 words or 40 pages).
- List of illustrations and table of contents (if applicable).
- Reader’s reports and responses.
- CV, demonstrating relevant expertise and prior publications.
