Publishing Internship

Fall 2024

For the upcoming cycle, this is a paid position focusing on communications and digital marketing. The Publishing Intern will work directly with the Communications & Distribution Manager. Due to funding requirements, only students are eligible.

Estimated Term: September 16, 2024, to January 17, 2025
Compensation: $25.05/hr
Approximate Hours: 15 hrs/week

Qualifications: Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and enrolled in full or part-time education at a Canadian institution during the internship.

Internship Cycles

Applications are accepted for three editorial internships per year. Eligibility criteria and work terms may differ each round. Applications are received on a rolling basis until the following dates:

  • September start: July 15
  • January start: November 15
  • May start: March 15

C Magazine employs one publishing intern to assist with the production of one to two issues and related events. Interns play a critical role in promoting and nurturing engagement with contemporary art, while gaining practical experience in publishing. Interns will develop skills in:

  • Writing
  • Communications

  • Social media marketing
  • Event planning and logistics
  • Volunteer management
  • Donor relations
  • Sponsor development
  • Grant writing

Details

Location:
Toronto, Canada

Compensation:
This position is paid when funding permits or compensated by academic credit.

Time Commitment:
5 to 10 hours per week on average

Qualifications:
Candidates should have senior-level undergraduate or graduate studies in visual art, critical and curatorial studies, arts management, art history, marketing and communications, publishing, or a related field. A strong interest and experience in contemporary arts and culture is preferred. Candidates must possess:

  • Excellent organization, research, writing, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Mac OS X, MS Word and Excel, and Google Apps and Drive
  • Some understanding of not-for-profit organizations is an asset
  • Familiarity with Photoshop, Filemaker Pro, CMS, CRM, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) are assets
  • Ability to work independently with supervision

Tasks

Circulation:
Assist with subscription fulfillment, data management, print distribution, and marketing.

Readership Development:
Assist with public programming, community outreach, and campaigns.

Online Communications:
Assist with social media, email newsletters, and maintaining online content.

Fundraising:
Assist with donation campaigns, sponsorship agreements, grant applications, and events.

Admin:
Assist with bookkeeping and office maintenance.
