Residency Details
The Goethe-Institut will cover the costs for airfare to Germany (return, economy class), visa and travel expenses for visa appointment, travel insurance, and accommodation during the residency. Participants will receive a lump-sum fee and daily costs totaling €3,000 for the entire residency, along with a subsidy of €600 for production or research.

Evaluation: Applications will be reviewed by hosts, independent juries, and Goethe-Institut staff in the respective countries. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an online interview in June/July 2024.

About the Programme
The Goethe-Institut Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, together with SAVVY Contemporary and TanzFaktur, invites applications for a three-month residency in visual and performing arts. This initiative aims to promote cultural collaboration, intercultural dialogue, and cultural involvement. The residency focuses on shared artistic production, reception, and reflection, providing a platform for artists to connect, exchange ideas, and draw inspiration from new cultural contexts.
Goals of the Residency
- Expand research
- Develop a concept or prototype
- Build a project
- Create an artwork with hosting organizations and local communities
Post-Residency: Participants are encouraged to continue their work and present it in their city of origin with the local Goethe-Institut as a host.

Overview & Requirements for SAVVY Contemporary (Berlin)
SAVVY Contemporary seeks artists, thinkers, researchers, and cultural professionals who develop artistic organizations, educational projects, neighborhood initiatives, and public research programs. Areas of interest include:
- Afro-Pacific cultural and art-historical affinities
- Role of artists in cultural management
- Innovative and critical approaches in exhibition-making
- Social development and artist-run entities
- Accessibility in precarious conditions
- Aesthetic strategies in cross-sectoral mobilization
Eligibility Criteria:
- Based in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, or Timor-Leste
- Proficiency in English
- At least ten years of experience in the arts sector or a relevant degree/master’s degree
- Experience in international exhibitions, productions, commissions, festivals, residency programs, or research
- Research-based and public-oriented engagement in practices
Applicants should engage with the organization’s community and consider SAVVY Contemporary’s institutional history and ongoing programs.
Note: SAVVY Contemporary does not provide studio spaces for production.
