BAR Project invites applications for the Barcelona Crea – BAR Project 2026 Research Grant, supporting the processes that precede artistic production: conceptualisation, research, experimentation, documentation, testing and prototyping.
An initiative of the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, the grant provides time and resources to develop new artistic proposals and contribute to the city’s cultural and scientific ecosystem. The selected applicant will receive €6,000 gross, paid in a single advance payment, alongside a mentored residency with BAR Project.
Research and development
The call supports research within the contemporary visual arts, including projects by artists, curators, performers and researchers. Proposals must be new or in development, before production, and must not have been publicly communicated or presented previously.
The research period runs from mid-November 2026 until 31 January 2027. The recipient will participate in a public presentation of the research process or its outcomes in January 2027, with the format developed alongside BAR Project. A final report is due by 15 February 2027.
Eligibility
The call is open to adults of any nationality whose practice or proposed project has a meaningful connection to Barcelona or its metropolitan area. This connection may be established through the project’s subject, the applicant’s residence, or documented professional and cultural ties to the city.
Projects that have already received Barcelona City Council funding or support through associated Barcelona Crea programmes are not eligible. Applicants who received a Barcelona Crea grant through the relevant programmes during the previous two years are also excluded.
Proposals will be assessed on artistic and conceptual interest, the quality of their research approach, alignment with the grant’s objectives, feasibility and the relationship between the applicant’s practice and the proposed project.
