About ARCUS Research
ARCUS Research offers a short-term, self-funded program for creative practitioners and professionals in art and cultural fields. This program provides an ideal setting for uninterrupted creative experimentation, in-depth fieldwork, and research. Participants, including artists, curators, researchers, and writers, have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their work while gaining exposure to the contemporary art scene and leading research institutions.
Location
ARCUS Research is conveniently located approximately an hour from Tokyo and just half an hour from Tsukuba City, renowned for hosting some of the world’s most prominent science and technology institutes. This unique setting allows participants to pursue their creative endeavors in a serene environment while easily accessing key cultural and research hubs.
Program Details
- Duration:
- One-month residency: June 7 – July 6, 2024 / July 10 – August 8, 2024
- Two-month residency: June 7 – August 8, 2024
- Program Fee (Paid by participants):
- One-month residency: JPY270,000
- Two-month residency: JPY500,000
The program fee covers studio space, accommodation, and initial consultation and orientation. As an optional activity, participants can join the “Show & Tell” salon to showcase their work and engage with the local community at the program’s conclusion.
Funding
ARCUS Research is a self-funded residency program. Participants seeking external grants can obtain an acceptance letter from ARCUS Project once selected for the program, facilitating their grant application process.
Eligibility
To apply for ARCUS Research, you must:
- Be a professional in a cultural or art-related field, such as an artist, curator, researcher, or writer.
- Not be enrolled in an educational institution during the program period unless pursuing a PhD.
- Possess proficient English-language skills to communicate with staff.
Application Instructions
Compile the following materials into a single PDF (A4 size) within a folder named “Last name_First name” (e.g., Smith_David), and compress it into a Zip file. Ensure that the PDF file does not exceed 6 MB. Email the file to arcus@arcus-project.com with “2024 ARCUS Research Application” as the subject line.
