Open Call: ARCUS Research 2025
ARCUS Project, Moriya, Japan
ARCUS Project has announced its call for applications for the ARCUS Research 2025 residency program, offering short-term, self-funded residencies. This program is open to artists, curators, researchers, university educators, and other cultural practitioners from around the world. The residency provides uninterrupted time for creative experimentation, research, and reflection in Moriya, Japan, a city known for its cutting-edge science and technology institutions. Located close to Tokyo, the residency offers opportunities to engage with Japan’s contemporary art scene and local research institutions.
Program Overview:
- ARCUS Research Summer: One or two-month residencies
- ARCUS Research Winter: One-month residency
- ARCUS Research Short: Two-week residency (New!)
Residency Periods:
- Summer 1: June 6 – July 5, 2025 (One month)
- Summer 2: July 10 – August 8, 2025 (One month)
- Summer 3: June 6 – August 8, 2025 (Two months)
- Winter: January 15 – February 13, 2026 (One month)
- Short: December 5 – 19, 2025 (Two weeks)
Program Fees:
- One-month residency: JPY 270,000
- Two-month residency: JPY 500,000
- Two-week residency: JPY 150,000
Fees include studio space, accommodation, basic consultation, and orientation. As an optional activity, participants can present their work to the local community through a “Show & Tell” salon.
Funding:
This is a self-funded program, but selected participants can request an acceptance letter from ARCUS Project to apply for external grants.
Eligibility:
- Practitioners or professionals in art and cultural fields.
- Applicants should not be enrolled in an educational institution during the residency (except for PhD candidates).
- Proficiency in English for communication.
Deadlines:
- Summer Residency: December 1, 2024 (23:59:59 JST)
- Winter and Short Residency: February 1, 2025 (23:59:59 JST)
