SAM Residencies – Open Call: Cycle 4 (2027/2028)

About the Residency

SAM Residencies invites applications from artists, curators, educators, researchers, and creative practitioners for Cycle 4, running from June 2027 to December 2028. The cycle is organised around three thematic strands: Listening/Attuning, Making/Material Cultures, and Beyond Human/Interdependence. Residents will pursue independent research and are encouraged to engage with communities and the public in Singapore, sharing works in progress or research outcomes through open studios, screenings, workshops, talks, and other experimental public formats.

Thematic Strands:

Listening/Attuning – platforms practices that respond critically to the urgencies of our time
Making/Material Cultures – foregrounds material inquiry and the process of making
Beyond Human/Interdependence – addresses relationships between humans, technologies, ecologies, and other forms of life, considering how these worlds remain fundamentally interconnected and interdependent

Residency Types:

Artist Residency – for artists and collectives pursuing new artistic research, experimentation, and modes of making
Community & Education Residency – for practitioners working at the intersection of artistic practice, education, and community engagement
Curatorial & Research Residency – for curators and researchers working towards new approaches to exhibition making, curatorial practice, and research methodologies

Key Responsibilities:

Pursue independent research aligned with the chosen thematic strand
Engage with communities and the public in Singapore as part of the residency process
Share works in progress or research outcomes through open studios, screenings, workshops, talks, and other experimental public formats

Requirements:

Open to individuals, duos, and collectives from all mediums and disciplines
International applicants may apply for residencies of one to three months; Singapore-based applicants may apply for up to six months
Applications assessed by an international panel of respected voices in contemporary art and practice
