ZK/U Residency Program for Artists, Curators, Researchers, and Activists – ZK/U, Berlin, Germany

ZK/U is an artist-led independent residency and project space in Berlin offering a multidisciplinary residency program. It welcomes artists, curators, researchers, and activists whose work explores urban dynamics and city experiences. The residency program encourages proposals that challenge conventions, include extraordinary perspectives, and engage with the urban environment. ZK/U invites applications for projects framed as:
- Conceptual, contextual, and interventionist contemporary artistic positions.
- Research or experimentation in urbanism, geography, anthropology, architecture, and the humanities.
Residency Details:
- Duration: 2-6 months
- Studio space for working and living
- Access to communal spaces: kitchen, terrace, library
- Program Includes: weekly dinners, monthly studio visits, bi-monthly open studio events (OPENHAUS)
- Additional Opportunities: Participate in public events or propose self-initiated public formats (additional costs may apply)
Cost:
- Residency fees range from €650 to €1000 per month, depending on the studio type and stay duration.
- Fees cover utility costs, space usage, and participation in the residency program.
- Additional costs apply for more than one person living in the studio.
Funding:
- This residency does not offer direct funding. Applicants are encouraged to self-organize funding for their proposed projects. ZK/U provides support by sharing a list of funding opportunities and offering an official invitation letter for funding applications.
Eligibility:
Open to artists, curators, researchers, and activists from all disciplines, with a focus on urban experimentation, social practices, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Note on ZK/U’s Space:
The public spaces of ZK/U will be undergoing renovation and expansion until summer 2025, with some noise disturbance and limitations expected during the day.
