Core Residency Program – Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Location: Houston, TX
Residency Duration: 23 months
Application Dates: Open: January 20, 2025 – Close: April 1, 2025
Stipend: $100,000 ($50,000 per year) plus a health stipend
The Core Residency Program offers residencies to emerging artists and critical writers dedicated to developing a sustainable practice. The program is designed to support exceptional and motivated individuals by providing financial support, access to studio space, and the opportunity to engage with regional, national, and international artists and curators. Fellows are expected to utilize the residency to significantly advance their practice, culminating in a solo exhibition or project in the second year.
Benefits:
- Stipend: $100,000 ($50,000 per year), plus a health stipend.

- Regular studio visits by regional, national, and international artists and curators.
- Access to facilities for painting, printmaking, digital and film photography, sculpture, jewelry, and ceramics at Glassell School of Art.
- Discount on classes at the Glassell School of Art.
- Borrowing privileges at the Hirsch Library and Rice University’s Fondren Library.
- Access to Museum of Fine Arts, Houston collections, including approximately 80,000 artworks spanning more than 5,000 years of history.
- Participation in a group exhibition in the first year and a solo exhibition or project in the second year.
Eligibility:
- Emerging artists and critical writers committed to developing a sustainable practice.
- A jury of distinguished arts professionals selects fellows based on the quality of submitted work and the potential impact of the residency on their practice.
- At least one fellowship is awarded to a Harris County–based artist or critic when qualifications are comparable.
Support for International Applicants:
- Limited administrative support is available for international applicants seeking J-1 visas through the program’s partner organization, International Arts & Artists. No support is provided for other visa types.
