Residency Programme
Rupert invites artists, writers, curators, researchers, academics, cultural managers, and other thinkers to join the residency programme in Vilnius for 1 to 3 months between January and December 2025. This programme supports individual or collaborative projects, reflection, research, and immersion in Lithuania’s contemporary art scene. Ideal candidates have several years of independent professional experience.
About the Residency
Located in Valakampiai, Vilnius, Rupert offers a serene environment near the river Neris, surrounded by nature. The residency provides three studios in the ‘Tech Arts’ building, designed by award-winning architect Audrius Ambrasas. Each studio (approximately 52 m2) includes a mezzanine, WiFi, and furnishings. Facilities include a reading room, gallery space, conference room, and kitchen, shared with other tenants.
Residents receive curatorial assistance through studio visits and connections to the local art scene. Participation in Rupert’s public and alternative education programmes is encouraged but not required. Rupert maintains strong connections with residency alumni, inviting them to future exhibitions and events.
Residencies are free, supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Tech Arts. Applicants cover personal expenses, but acceptance letters are provided to support external grant applications.
Application Information
Artist collectives (up to 3 people) and families are welcome. The building’s facilities are shared, and studio access is not step-free. Specific accessibility needs can be discussed by contacting info@rupert.lt with the subject ‘Residency accessibility’.
Nordic Culture Point Scholarship
Rupert offers two-month scholarships for artists residing in Nordic and Baltic countries (excluding Lithuania). This includes stipends for travel (300 EUR), living expenses (1000 EUR), and production (400 EUR). Applicants can opt for consideration on the form.
Residency Project
Applicants should outline a project for the residency. Projects can be independently developed, but sharing how the residency will enhance the project is encouraged. Indicate if the residency is research-based or production-based, and specify any necessary materials.
Residency Duration
Residencies last 1 to 3 months. Applicants should state their preferred duration and timing. Final dates are negotiable based on studio availability and Rupert’s schedule.
Application Guidelines
Submit the online application form and necessary documents via Rupert’s website by 14 July 2024, 23:59 EEST. There is a 20€ application fee, payable via Stripe. The fee supports external reviewers and application processing. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in late August 2024, with results announced by the first week of September 2024.
