Art Explora’s Vila 31 Residency in Tirana welcomes international artists, curators, researchers, and artist collectives with a minimum of five years of professional experience and international exhibitions or research presentations. The residency supports the development of creative or research projects in the fields of visual and digital arts, performance, curatorial practices, art criticism, humanities, social sciences, ecology, and technological innovation.
Two programme types are available:
- SOLO (for individual artists)
- COLLECTIVE (for collectives or duos of artists, curators, or researchers)
Each 3-month session provides accommodation in a furnished studio-apartment and financial support. No final output is required, allowing full focus on project development.
Selection Criteria
Candidates are evaluated based on the quality and relevance of their proposal, as well as the significance of Albania as a context for the project. Around 30 residents are selected each year by a distinguished jury including Pierre Bal-Blanc, Sam Bardaouil & Till Fellrath, Adela Demetja, Katerina Gregos, Alicia Knock, and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
