LACMA’s exhibitions and acquisitions programs play a key role in its mission to serve the public by collecting, conserving, exhibiting, and interpreting significant artworks from diverse cultures and historical periods. Role Description
The Assistant Curator will focus on European decorative arts before 1850, supporting acquisitions, exhibitions, publications, collections management, and donor cultivation. Knowledge of early American decorative arts is advantageous. The ideal candidate will have a broad intellectual curiosity and interest in connecting time periods and cultures. Experience in innovative research, public or private collections development, and audience engagement through various channels is essential.
Responsibilities
- Support permanent collection installations for the Geffen Galleries.
- Participate in collection research, object selection, layout development, and installation.
- Prepare interpretive content for Collections Online and other formats.
- Contribute to LACMA’s exhibition program, supporting large-scale projects.
- Conduct research for proposed acquisitions and provide written justifications.
- Co-author or contribute to museum catalogues and publications.
- Cultivate new donors and steward existing relationships.
- Assist with administrative duties, including object inquiries and maintenance of object files.
- Participate in departmental donor/supporter events.

Qualifications
- At least 2 years of curatorial experience; MA required.
- Proven success in collaborative work.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Expertise in European Decorative Arts, with knowledge of the history of silver and early American decorative arts.
- Knowledge of a foreign language is an asset.
