Call for Applications for The New Centre’s Certificate Programs/Scholarships

&TNC The New Centre is a graduate-level institution for the Arts, Humanities and Sciences, founded in 2011 as an independent space for critical thinking across disciplines. Our curriculum runs across five programs: Critical Philosophy, Art & Curatorial Studies, Transdisciplinary Studies, Information Architecture & Intelligence Design, and Sociopolitical Thought. Each season we offer Seminars, Workshops, Roundtables and longer Certificate Programs, taught by an international faculty of Instructors, and Members have full access to an archive of over 5,000 hours of recorded sessions. For over a decade we have built a curriculum outside the constraints of official academia, shaped by the Instructors and Researchers who teach and study within it.

The deadline for Scholarship applications to &TNC The New Centre’s Certificate Programs has been extended to September 8th, 11:59pm ET. To apply, complete the application form and submit a writing sample and a cover letter describing your intellectual interests and your need for scholarship support.

Applicants from the Global South will automatically receive a 50 percent Scholarship on tuition. In addition, half of our Full Scholarship recipients are from the Global South and half are women. The new &TNC Platform is up and running now, replacing our old website and marking the beginning of our use of AI to become a more decentralized and polyphonic institution of higher learning. It arrives at a moment when official academia is being eroded from within by stagnation and from outside by the market’s demand for quantifiable results. 

To mark this new beginning, we are offering an exclusive Membership Special during the Application period to e-flux Education subscribers. We are also sharing POPY SEEDS to mark the platform, mixed by the Berlin-based producer Bartolome, a raw and rough dancefloor session for the summer.

This upcoming season was planned by a larger Programming Committee and organizational structure, as the breadth of our curriculum calls for more minds to shape it. We welcome Roya Rastegar as our Transdisciplinary Studies Programmer, bringing her experience as a writer, scholar, filmmaker, and cultural strategist; alongside Sarah Amselem Felices, a designer, programmer, and digital strategist, who joins Morgane Billuart as Information Architecture & Intelligence Design co-Programmers. In addition to teaching, Reza Negarestani now acts as our Dean of Academic Affairs, while J.P. Caron and Anna Longo bring their complementary strengths as the Critical Philosophy co-Programmers. We also welcome Khares Tokatlidis as our Alumni Affairs Coordinator, strengthening our connection with our Researchers and students.

This season’s Seminars cover a wide array of topics. Working on life, the human and the body, Anna Beria examines the concept of life across philosophy, biology and psychoanalysis, Morgane Billuart models the disembodied female body from flesh to interface, Conrad Hamilton revisits Catherine Malabou’s concept of plasticity and its evolution through her corpus, J.P. Caron & Rafael Pedroso take up the concept of social synthesis in Sohn-Rethel, Alex Taek-Gwang Lee reads Deleuze with Marx and the desire for fascism, Marcello Musto traces the critical genealogies of the critiques of capitalism, and Daniel Tutt surveys the later Lukács on social ontology. On art, curating and criticism, Domenic Hutchins & Sean Tatol diagnose the symptoms of the October journal fifty years on, and Boris Ondreička furthers the idea of intercentric curatorial studies. Finally, Anna Longo addresses the ramifications of informational war for subjectivity, Vincent Lê explores new rationalisms in the age of artificial intelligence, Nathaniel Wooding considers the relationship between philosophy and strategy, Romulo Moraes turns to Brazilian music collectionism and Roya Rastegar investigates the legacy of Marjane Satrapi.

Our new Workshops comprise Mischa Dols and Onty on Internet Cinema and the Crisis of Modernism, Rafael de Toledo Pedroso on Mapping the “Ghostweb” and digital residue, Simon Schirren on Sheaves and Category Theory as the Shape of Information, and Fernando Wirtz on Nostalgia as Method in Japanese Media Archaeology. Our Roundtables include David Burke on Heavy Metal as Overdriven Culture, Aleksandr Delev on Online Domesticity and the Vernacular Home, Jeffrey Grunthaner on Intelligibility and Technics Beyond Modern Instrumentality, Joshua Guiness on Berlin and the Crisis of Spatial Form After the Polis, eileen slightly on Illustration as Evasive Method and the Grotesque Corpse, and Ankur Yadav on Building Narratives from the Ground.

Our &&& Platform continues to publish original texts and translations across philosophy, art, technology and social thought, with submissions welcome year-round through editors@thenewcentre.org.

This spring, our Organizer Mohammad Salemy and Board Member Eduarda Neves co-curated (Super)Models, the central exhibition of Mayrit Biennial 2026, an inquiry into models as generative agents that foster and mediate complexity. They also organized the Biennial’s public program featuring our Instructors João Enxuto and Erica Love alongside Maria Inês Plaza Lazo, Sean Tatol, Roberto Alonso Trillo, Dean Kissick and john gerrard.

Our publishing arm, &&&, was present at Miss Read: The Berlin Art Book Fair 2026. Through &&& BOOKS, we released a second edition oflogiciel: Six Seminars on Computational Reason by AA Cavia, with a foreword by Anna Longo. We have also released Art World 3000, edited by Mohammad Salemy and our Instructor Romulo Moraes as the outcome of their Seminar “What Now: Contemporary Art & The Post-Pandemic Condition”. Developed collaboratively, each text functions as a speculative history, artwork, controversy, or biennial set in the future, with contributions from Ygor Anário, Georgiana Cojocaru, Mostafa Elbaroody, Paige Emery, Veronika Hanakova, Akshat Khare, nick von kleist, Ana Paula Lourenço and Rodolfo Sousa Ortega. Lastly, we congratulate Members of our community on their recent achievements: our Programmer Conrad Hamilton on his appointment as Assistant Professor at East China Normal University; our Programmer Morgane Billuart on the publication of her first novel, The Heat of Others, released by Set Margins; our Researcher Klara Kusa on her residency at Tender Prospects; Alex Mazey on the launch of his book Rival Streamer through Trickhouse Press; and Alan Diaz Alva on completing his PhD in philosophy at Germany’s Leuphana University.
