About the Role
The National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) seeks a skilled Senior Art Handling Technician to join its Art Movement Team (AMT). This role involves handling, packing, transporting, and installing artworks across NGS’s four stunning galleries in Edinburgh and the Granton Art Centre. The position also includes supporting complex national and international exhibitions, ensuring the safe movement and care of both NGS’s collection and loaned artworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely handle, transport, and install artworks for exhibitions and storage.
- Manage the collection and return of artworks to/from lenders.
- Maintain tools, equipment, storage areas, and exhibit upkeep.
- Assist in planning, monitoring, and assessing the team’s workload and resources.
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure safety and efficiency during operations.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in art handling, transportation, and installation processes.
- Familiarity with national standards for art movement and location tracking.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential tasks with precision and professionalism.
- Clear and proactive communicator, capable of working collaboratively within a team.
