Senior Collection Manager: Care and Access

The British Museum invites applications for a full-time permanent Senior Collection Manager to lead collection care and access operations. The role focuses on managing daily collection maintenance, gallery and storage care, object movement, documentation, and study room operations, supporting the Museum’s collection programme.

Position Details

  • Full-time (41 hours/week including 1 hour paid lunch)
  • Permanent contract
  • Salary: £41,852 per annum

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation and monitoring of collection care and management procedures to meet best practice standards
  • Manage Collection Managers responsible for storage and research spaces, including team development and performance management
  • Champion collection management best practices museum-wide and communicate solutions for operational challenges
  • Oversee scheduling of projects, reporting to senior management
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to integrate all collection care and access activities

Candidate Profile

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong interest in the British Museum’s collections
  • Skilled in managing timetables, budgets, and resources
  • Expertise in collection care, object handling, display, and preventative conservation
  • Proven organizational and prioritization skills managing varied workloads
  • Able to work flexibly in multidisciplinary teams
