Main Purpose of the Role:
Responsible for the origination, research and delivery of Compton Verney Art Gallery & Park’s creative programme in line with the gallery’s vision and Manifesto. To include: temporary exhibitions; artist commissioning; collections interventions, acquisitions and redisplays; and site-specific landscape programming.
Role Responsibilities:
- To originate, research, plan and implement exhibitions, collections interventions, visual art interventions in the park and galleries and other curatorial projects that meet the organisational objectives of Compton Verney Art Gallery & Park in line with the new brand, Manifesto and Culture Code:
- To work with colleagues to develop a One Compton Verney Art Gallery & Park’s programme which will include: historic, modern and contemporary creative projects across the park and house.
- To develop a timely, relevant and diverse programme, both onsite and digital, which meets our equalities, diversity and inclusion principles, creative ambition and our commercial objectives, to include wide-ranging media across multiple platforms and seeking new perspectives. This includes production of touring shows, digital content and touring-in shows.
- Identify audience segments as relevant to programme development opportunities, propose the business model and seek approvals, deliver against project management structure.
- Assess the viability project and exhibition proposals, and to develop them further with the potential partners and embedding in the wider Compton Verney proposition alongside commercial, marketing, audience engagement etc.
- Manage the exhibition and project budgets from initiation to delivery, reporting into finance and commercial heads on progress and writing reports.
- Work with the whole team on the project logistics, including property and technical teams, such as: scheduling, potential loan requests, co-ordination of art transport, installation and de-installation alongside other initiatives to ensure smooth site operations.
- Lead on the production of publications, exhibition guides and work with the Commercial Team on seeking and creating other exhibition and project related merchandise and material.
- To support the Development team with funding applications as needed and managing externally funded projects resulting from successful bids.
- Working up the commissioning brief and creating the contracts for external curators, artists, designers and consultants, as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Marketing Manager on all visual identities, ensuring brand adherence and appropriate sign off by the Marketing Manager.
- Working from the Interpretation strategy, develop an interpretation intent, agree with Marketing Manager the brand and design approach. To work with the Marketing team on the development of strategies in relation to the promotion and publicity of the projects and exhibitions, and to ensure appropriate press images are sought
- Lead and co-ordinate the supplementary activity whether digital or on site to augment the wider programme, working with the wider teams.
- To work with colleagues to ensure appropriate evaluation, documentation and archiving of Compton Verney’s exhibitions and projects.
- To provide information the Executive Team and board as required.
- To provide support to the CEO-Director and the Head of Content & Audience
- Engagement on a variety of departmental tasks.
- Undertaking other duties which may be reasonably requested by the Executive team and which are compatible with the overall scope and authority of the role.
