About Alcaston Gallery
Alcaston Gallery, established in 1989, is a leading commercial fine art gallery in Melbourne’s CBD. The gallery has a national and international focus, known for representing Australian First Nations Artists and contemporary artists from the Asia-Pacific region. The Role
The Senior Curator role is an integral part of the gallery’s curatorial and administration team. This position, reporting to the Gallery Manager, involves a strategic and creative approach to developing and executing exhibition schedules, both physical and virtual. The role demands strong interpersonal communication skills, marketing acumen, and high-level competence in software such as InDesign and Photoshop. Candidates should be prepared for occasional interstate and international travel and have a passion for visiting public gallery exhibitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the Exhibition Schedule and art fair participations, including budgeting.
- Oversee and enhance the gallery’s online presence and Content Management System (CMS).
- Support gallery projects and stakeholder engagements.
Required Skills
- Exceptional writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of artist practices and the contemporary art scene.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and general IT.
- Experience in the arts sector is essential, with a preference for those with a background in commercial art galleries, museums, or similar institutions.
- Familiarity with Content Management Systems and a broad understanding of national and international contemporary art.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in international relations.
- Knowledge of museum or public art institution operations.
