Pallant House Gallery

Pallant House Gallery in Chichester is one of the leading modern art museums in the UK, housed in a unique setting of a 18th century Queen Anne townhouse and a contemporary extension. It has been widely acclaimed for its innovative exhibitions and pioneering Learning and Community Programme and has won numerous awards and accolades including the Gulbenkian Prize and the Charity Award. The Gallery’s collection of Modern British art is frequently described as one of the best in the UK, with important works by Michael Andrews, Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Richard Hamilton, Barbara Hepworth, Ivon Hitchens, Henry Moore, John Piper, and Graham Sutherland. It mounts three major exhibitions each year, together with a number of complementary smaller exhibitions and displays, and regular redisplays of the permanent collection.

The Gallery employs 40 staff (FTE) who work closely with 200 highly committed volunteers and has 4000 Friends of the Gallery. In addition to an average of 60,000 visitors a year, it also delivers learning and community programmes to over 8,000 people.

About the role

As Senior Curator you will be responsible for developing, delivering and managing Pallant House Gallery’s artistic programme in close partnership with the other members of the curatorial team and Senior Management. As Senior Curator, you will implement the development and delivery of exhibitions from initiating proposals to completion of the project. You will also contribute to the care, research, development and display of the Gallery’s collection. You will organise loans from national and international partners, including galleries and private lenders. You will manage and deliver displays, events and interpretation across a range of media, including online, in line with the Gallery’s policies and strategies. You will be expected to increase and broaden audiences through the artistic programme. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and representatives of other organisations to deliver projects in the Gallery and elsewhere to deliver the artistic programme. You will play a key role in the Gallery’s Senior Management Team, acting as a Duty Manager and contribute towards the development and delivery of the Gallery’s strategic and business plans.
