Tate Britain is renowned for its contemporary programme of major temporary exhibitions, collection displays, commissions, performance, and film. Tate Britain’s contemporary, modern and historic curatorial teams, together covering over 500 years of British art, ensures the highest standard of content and delivery of its diverse and ambitious programme and the continual care and extension of the national collection.
Tate Britain is now looking for an experienced and dynamic new Senior Curator of contemporary art, with expert knowledge of 21st century and background in 1980s and 90s British art. This is a key post within the senior management team at Tate Britain.
Reporting to the Director Tate Britain and Director of Exhibitions and Displays, Tate Britain you will play a leading role in formulating Tate Britain’s contemporary programme, and, together with the team of curators, you will research, develop and deliver the contemporary programme of exhibitions, collection displays and new commissions. Reporting to the Director of Collection, you will play a key role in identifying new acquisitions of contemporary British art, while inspiring the curatorial team to develop their own acquisition opportunities. You will provide strategic leadership and management of the contemporary curatorial department, supervising their work and supporting their development. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and play an important role in representing Tate Britain and Tate externally with key stakeholders.

You will be an experienced curator of British and international contemporary art. An impressive track record of publications and research, an established network of contacts and a knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding collecting contemporary art as well as extensive experience of the processes involved in staging major exhibitions and displays, including fundraising and budget management, will all be essential. You will be an excellent communicator with the capacity to write authoritative texts for a specialist readership as well as accessible texts for a general public. You will be committed to issues of equality, diversity and inclusion. The ability and willingness to attend out of hours’ functions is also essential.
