Senior Curator.Glenbow Museum, Calgary.

We are seeking an energetic and experienced professional for this full-time position. This role reports to the VP, Access, Collections, and Exhibits (ACE) and will bring to the role a broad understanding of contemporary, modern and historical art with a focus on Canadian practice. The successful candidate will develop innovative and diverse exhibitions that will engage existing and new audiences and collaborate with staff to develop strategies and deliver outcomes relevant to the visual arts and to Glenbow’s vision, mission and strategic plan. He or she will also provide curatorial oversight for the care and use of artworks in the collection, steward the development of the collection and contribute to other art-related projects, publications and outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Art History.
- Broad knowledge of historical, modern and contemporary art, locally (Alberta), nationally and internationally.
- 4 – 5 years of recent, progressively responsible curatorial experience in an art gallery or art museum, with demonstrated success in originating art exhibitions, including all facets of research, production, installation, publication and budget development, as well as experience working with an art collection and development of exhibitions.
- Direct experience in project management and budget management, donor relations, and working with diverse communities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with respect to historical, modern and contemporary artwork for public presentations, project proposals, grant submissions, publications and other printed materials.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, artists, professionals within the museum’s communities and the public.
