The Fitzwilliam Museum is seeking a Senior Curator of Historic & Modern Paintings to lead curatorial and research work around its renowned collection, which includes Italian paintings (13th–18th c.), Flemish and Dutch paintings (16th–17th c.), and French and British works (18th–early 20th c.), as well as internationally significant drawings and watercolours.
The postholder will shape and deliver collection-based research, displays, exhibitions, and public programmes, with a focus on contemporary relevance and inclusivity. The role encourages cross-departmental collaboration and active engagement with underrepresented artists and perspectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead research and curatorial strategy for Historic & Modern Paintings collections.
- Develop public programming, temporary displays, and collaborative initiatives.
- Contribute to teaching and publishing within the University.
- Engage with diverse audiences and highlight global connections.
Qualifications
Candidates should have significant expertise and curatorial experience with historic and modern European paintings. A record of exhibition-making, teaching, and inclusive curatorial practice is essential.
