About the Role

The museum seeks a specialist in contemporary art for the John and Barbara Vogelstein Senior Curator of Contemporary Art position. This role involves developing, researching, presenting, and growing the museum’s contemporary art collection. The curator will engage diverse audiences through exhibitions, programs, publications, and digital media. The role requires extensive experience in curating groundbreaking exhibitions, fostering donor relationships, and engaging with community stakeholders to inform museum programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives to expand and deepen the museum’s contemporary art collections.
  • Collaborate on acquisitions with the Director, Trustees, Development department, and curatorial colleagues.
  • Promote new acquisitions and collection activities on social media and the web.
  • Propose and coordinate innovative exhibitions drawing from the museum’s holdings and other sources.
  • Manage collections and perform advanced scholarly research.
  • Advocate for public and educational programming to increase visibility and public interest.
  • Supervise and mentor the Curatorial Assistant and interns.
  • Execute administrative responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience with a strong record of exhibitions and publications.
  • Success in curatorial strategies and collection stewardship.
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and critical theories of race, class, ability, and gender.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Commitment to diverse communities and DEIA principles.
  • Preferred: MA or PhD in a relevant field.
