The Senior Curatorial Assistant will work in the Curatorial Department of the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) at The University of Hong Kong. The role involves assisting with special exhibition projects and conducting collection-related research. The position requires attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently with initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collection Work:
- Understand art history and proactively research museum objects.
- Conduct curatorial research, including reading and writing about museum objects.
- Enhance and verify data in the museum object database.
- Assist with creating object condition reports.
- Exhibition Work:
- Conduct research on art topics related to exhibitions.
- Translate exhibition-related texts.
- Assist in organising educational events, such as lectures and round-table discussions.
- Lead guided tours.
A rotating weekend schedule applies, and irregular hours may be required occasionally.
Qualifications and Qualities:
- Education:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Art History, preferably in Chinese art.
- Level 4 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.
- Experience:
- At least 3 years of full-time relevant experience in museums, art organisations, research, and curating art objects, or in an academic institute.
- Strong passion for the cultural sector.
- Knowledge of Chinese arts and art history.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in both written English and Chinese, with experience in translation.
- Proficiency in Putonghua.
- Familiarity with computer software such as Zoom, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
