Ocula is a leading online platform for contemporary art, publishing in-depth interviews, critical essays, and analysis on artists, exhibitions, and ideas shaping the global art world. Following a relaunch, Ocula is seeking a Senior Editor to join its editorial team and shape the magazine’s vision for the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, commission, and edit global features, interviews, and columns from staff and freelance writers.
- Write regular articles including exhibition previews, artist profiles, and quick-turnaround columns.
- Introduce new content formats and push digital storytelling beyond current art media.
- Monitor developments and movements in the art world, especially in Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America.
- Collaborate with Social Media and Managing Editors to optimise editorial workflow and reach.
- Manage editorial assistants and interns, fostering a creative and collaborative environment.
- Contribute to newsletters and occasional video/podcast production.
- Chair live panels or events when required.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in commissioning and editing stories, ideally in digital-first environments.
- Exceptional writing, narrative structuring, and critical insight.
- Strong knowledge of the international contemporary art world and professional network.
- Understanding of how visual culture connects to economics, politics, and society.
- Familiarity with digital publishing, SEO, newsletter strategy, and audiovisual production.
- Collaborative, agile, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Global mindset and sensitivity to diverse audiences and cultures.
