The Art Jameel Collection, based in Dubai, supports significant artworks by Middle Eastern and international artists, fostering critical dialogue and research. The collection focuses on contemporary art, with acquisitions that reflect diverse and dynamic curation.
Role Overview:
The Senior Manager, Collections will oversee all aspects of the Art Jameel Collection, including acquisitions, programming, research, cataloguing, and conservation. The role involves working closely with the Director, Deputy Directors, and Curatorial teams, as well as managing the Collection’s Registrar and Research Assistant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead management of the collection, including acquisitions, logistics, documentation, cataloguing, and storage.
- Oversee conservation and condition reporting of works.
- Manage collection loans, collaborating with institutions locally and globally.
- Support curatorial research and exhibition development, focusing on the inclusion of the Collection’s works in exhibitions.
- Contribute to programming, including symposia and research fellowships.
- Manage budgets and develop partnerships with galleries, artists, and institutions.
Requirements:
- Education: Degree in arts or collection management.
- Experience: Significant experience in collection management within a not-for-profit institution, including overseeing legal and financial aspects.
- Skills: Excellent writing, planning, communication, and negotiation skills. Strong knowledge of Middle Eastern and international contemporary art.
- Language: Fluency in English is required; Arabic is desirable.
- Other: Willingness to travel and attend out-of-hours events as needed.
Location:
Dubai, UAE, with occasional travel to exhibitions and meetings.
