The Barbican Centre is seeking a Senior Producer, Learning and Participation to join its Creative Collaboration team.

The Senior Producer will develop and deliver programmes engaging young people and communities underrepresented in arts and culture as participants, audiences, makers, creative workers and artists.

Focusing primarily on the City of London and the neighbouring boroughs of Camden, Islington, Tower Hamlets and Hackney, the successful candidate will manage the learning and community team and collaborate with the Barbican’s artform departments to deliver participatory events and programmes.

About Creative Collaboration

The Creative Collaboration department sits at the heart of the Barbican’s engagement with its communities, breaking down traditional boundaries between artforms and contributing to a diverse and dynamic artistic programme.

Working across the centre’s venues and spaces, the department develops interdisciplinary projects that connect new audiences with the Barbican and engage creatives, participants and communities reflecting London’s diversity.

Its work supports the Barbican’s ambition to be a globally minded arts centre rooted in its local community and committed to fulfilling its civic purpose. The team aims to co-create joyful experiences that inspire, connect and provoke debate.

Responsibilities

The Senior Producer will:

• Develop and deliver learning, participation and community programmes;
• Engage young people, communities, audiences and emerging artists;
• Manage and inspire the learning and community team;
• Produce large-scale public participatory and educational arts events;
• Collaborate with teams across the Barbican’s different artforms;
• Build productive relationships with artists, communities and partner organisations;
• Manage complex budgets;
• Prepare, present and implement business plans and strategies;
• Contribute to the delivery of the Creative Collaboration strategy;
• Consult, negotiate with and influence internal and external stakeholders;
• Present work to senior colleagues and external audiences nationally and internationally;
• Anticipate and resolve challenges affecting programme delivery; and
• Ensure participation and learning projects are implemented successfully.

Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate:

• Significant experience in community arts, participatory youth work or arts education;
• A strong record of delivering large-scale public participatory or educational arts events across different artforms;
• Awareness of and commitment to equity and cultural diversity;
• Experience working with diverse artists and audiences;
• Significant experience managing complex budgets;
• Experience preparing, presenting and implementing business plans and strategies;
• Significant experience leading teams to deliver ambitious, high-quality programmes and events;
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
• The ability to consult, negotiate and persuade internal and external stakeholders;
• Significant experience presenting to senior colleagues and external audiences nationally and internationally;
• Excellent written communication skills;
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access;
• The ability to anticipate and resolve problems; and
• An innovative and collaborative approach to producing arts programmes.
