The Barbican Centre is seeking a Senior Production Manager to lead and coordinate the delivery of its internationally recognised Music Programme. The role focuses on the operational planning and execution of live music events across the Concert Hall and associated spaces, working closely with artistic, technical, and production teams.
The Barbican is a multidisciplinary arts centre in the City of London presenting a wide range of performances, exhibitions, and events, and supporting both established and emerging artists through an ambitious international programme.
Role Overview
- Lead pre-planning and delivery of all music events in the Concert Hall and related spaces
- Manage and support a team of Production Managers
- Coordinate operational requirements across internal departments
- Act as key liaison for resident and associate orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra
- Ensure consistent delivery of rental and in-house programmes to international standards
- Design, implement, and maintain production systems and operational protocols
- Oversee event production planning both onsite and offsite
Key Requirements
- Strong knowledge and interest in classical and contemporary music
- Extensive experience in live event production within a major arts venue or similar environment
- Proven track record in concert or event production management
- Experience managing teams and line management responsibilities
- Strong understanding of stage, technical, and production workflows
- Knowledge of UK visa and immigration systems for touring artists
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong organisational and project management abilities
- Experience managing budgets and complex production logistics
- Understanding of health & safety and risk assessment in live events
- Familiarity with production systems (e.g. Artifax) and strong IT skills
Programme Context
The Barbican Music Programme spans classical, contemporary, electronic, and cross-disciplinary work, presenting hundreds of events annually. The production team plays a central role in ensuring high-quality delivery across diverse and complex live performance formats, collaborating with international artists and partners.
This is a senior operational role focused on event production and team leadership rather than purely technical delivery.
