Join Hospital Rooms as a Senior Project Curator to lead a groundbreaking flagship project in East London. This exciting role involves curating an NHS project in an inpatient mental health hospital—one ward recently named in honour of artist Donald Rodney—and delivering a dynamic programme of workshops, artwork installations, and community events.
Key Details:
- Role Start Date: Desired start in April 2025 (or sooner for the co-production phase)
- Project Duration: From artistic co-production through installation, completing in early 2026
- Location: East London, with regular travel to the project site and related institutions
About the Role:
- Collaborative Leadership: Work closely with the Co-Founders, NHS Trusts, service users, and funders to co-produce and install art projects.
- Hands-On Involvement: Support artists in leading workshops and coordinate on-site installations with dedicated technicians.
- Community Focus: Deliver participatory programmes that engage marginalised and diverse communities, ensuring their voices are central to the project.
- Fundraising & Events: Support related events and fundraisers vital to sustaining Hospital Rooms’ work.
About You:
- Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or equivalent experience in an arts-related discipline (art history, design/architecture, art theory, cultural studies, etc.) is desirable.
- Proven track record in curating artist commissions and managing complex, participatory cultural projects.
- Strong London-based cultural network.
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams (including freelancers and contractors) and budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to work with marginalised and diverse communities.
- Technical & Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective consultation, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to navigate complex environments with sensitivity and resilience.
- Results-oriented, tactful, and diplomatic in building strong, trusting relationships.
