The British Museum is seeking a Senior Project Manager to be part of an exciting and dynamic team which works with staff across the British Museum to generate vital income and to help fulfil strategic objectives of sharing the Museum’s collections and expertise.
The Senior Project Manager will manage the development and delivery of a number of the Museum’s portfolio of international touring exhibitions to overseas hosts as well as project manage the delivery of the Museum’s international advisory and/or training services as required.
This position will also be responsible for managing the Project Managers within the team and providing planning and strategic support to the Head of International Touring Exhibitions.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Manage the development of certain of the Museum’s international touring exhibitions and international projects as required.
- To discuss content and narrative with curators and keepers.
- To provide strategic support for the Head of International Touring Exhibitions in department planning tasks and in the creation and development of the exhibition forward plan.
- Maintain all international relationships at the highest possible level and adopt a diplomatic, tactful and professional approach at all times.
- Ensure that activities are carried out in line with the Museum’s strategic plan, particularly in relation to its international strategy.
Person Specification:
It is essential that the post holder is a university graduate and experienced project manager with particular experience in managing budgets and working on international projects in a museum/ cultural environment. They must also be an excellent team player, be well-organised, and have a professional and commercial approach as well as having excellent communication skills – both written and oral. The post holder will need to have the ability to maintain excellent relationships with clients and other stakeholders, while pursuing the Museums interests. It is desirable that you have experience in the museum/cultural sector international touring exhibitions.
