Overview of the Position
In collaboration with the Royal Commission for AlUla (Saudi Arabia), UNESCO seeks an Individual Specialist to lead the design of a publication and methodologies for promoting intercultural learning and dialogue in museums and heritage sites. This initiative supports AlUla’s vision of becoming the world’s largest Living Museum while contributing to UNESCO’s broader mission of fostering inclusive, just, and peaceful societies.
The project includes:
- Developing a visitor experience for intercultural learning to be launched during the Intercultural Training Week in Paris (February 17-21, 2025).
- Creating a comprehensive publication (approximately 100 pages) to serve as a guide for museums worldwide in fostering intercultural understanding.
Key Responsibilities
- Publication Development:
- Design and write a detailed publication, including case studies, methodologies, and recommendations for museums and heritage sites.
- Highlight successful global initiatives promoting intercultural dialogue.
- Propose impact assessment tools and an algorithm for replicating visitor experiences.
- Research:
- Conduct a literature review, interviews, and testimonial collection.
- Identify 3–5 successful case studies demonstrating the role of heritage in intercultural learning.
- Engagement:
- Participate in the Intercultural Training Week in Paris to gather material.
- Collaborate with the UNESCO team and stakeholders, considering feedback and adhering to UNESCO’s quality standards.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Education: Master’s degree in intercultural education, museum studies, anthropology, or related fields.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years in intercultural learning and education, including designing and delivering training.
- Strong qualitative research and writing skills.
- Skills:
- Advanced understanding of intercultural competence frameworks and methodologies.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work independently and manage tight deadlines.
Desirable:
- PhD in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of Arabic or other UN languages.
- Experience with UNESCO’s intercultural projects or related initiatives.
