Spring 2025 Curatorial Internship
Whitney Museum of American Art – New York, NY, USA (Hybrid)
Duration: February 3, 2025 – April 18, 2025
Commitment: 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks (total 200 hours)
Compensation: $3,000 stipend
Internship Overview
The Whitney Museum’s Spring 2025 Curatorial Internship offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in curatorial practices within a leading art institution. This hybrid internship, open to students in accredited programs, involves working with the museum’s curatorial team on a variety of projects including exhibition planning, collection stewardship, and research assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with collection stewardship, exhibition planning, and catalog preparation.
- Conducting research and supporting acquisitions.
- Administrative support across departments related to prewar art, contemporary art, photography, film, video, and performance.
- Contributing to the Chief Curator’s office and projects within the permanent collection.
Skills & Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate students (excluding freshman undergraduates) enrolled in an accredited program.
- Demonstrated interest in art history; students from all majors are encouraged to apply.
- Previous research experience and basic Microsoft Office skills are required.
- No prior museum experience is necessary.
Training Provided
Interns will receive training in museum systems, including Raiser’s Edge and The Museum System (TMS), to develop a comprehensive understanding of curatorial operations, exhibition planning, and collection management.
Outcomes
Interns will gain insights into curatorial practices, including the curation, care, and display of the Whitney’s collection of over 26,000 works of art, and will support the museum’s mission in organizing exhibitions.
