  • June 2024: Paid training sessions, 6 hours plus preparation
  • August to September 2024: Additional training, 12 hours plus preparation
  • September 21 to December 1, 2024: Active storytelling during Biennial season, 20 hours weekly, including weekends and Fridays
Salary:
  • $300 for independent preparation and research
  • $35/hour for training, workshops, and storytelling sessions

Opportunity Description

The Toronto Biennial of Art seeks 3 Storytellers to present contemporary art. The role involves interpreting and narrating art, leading tours, and facilitating discussions. Storytellers will create personal responses to the Biennial, incorporating various educational and artistic practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled training sessions
  • Research TBA exhibition content to enhance storytelling sessions
  • Develop and lead engaging sessions for diverse intergenerational groups
  • Handle complex discussions with sensitivity and care
  • Coordinate closely with the Public Programming & Learning team

Training Details

  • June 2024: Accessibility, Equity, Anti-Oppression, De-escalation
  • August 2024: Indigenous and R.I.S.E. Edutainment Pedagogies, Mobile Arts Curriculum
  • September 2024: Walking Tours, Exhibition Walkthroughs
  • Regular storytelling sessions starting September 21, 2024

Qualifications

  • Commitment to anti-oppression and equity
  • Experience in education, storytelling, or facilitation
  • Interest in contemporary art, education, and social justice
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in English and other languages or ASL is an asset
