Student & Teacher Programs Specialist
The Job
Develops and runs the Art Adventure program and other student and teacher programs including creating and maintaining databases, provides volunteer training, and oversees school program student exhibitions. Conducts art historical research and writes about artworks to make them accessible to students, teachers, and Art Adventure volunteers.
In this role, you will….
1. Develop and run select student and teacher programs and events in schools and at the museum, including Art Adventure.
- Create and maintain databases and schedules for school programs.
- For select programs, develop and update curriculum, create and oversee schedules, order art supplies, maintain inventory of student art, and facilitate job-related exhibition installation/de-installation.
- Conduct research relevant to student and teacher program development and produce learning resources for print and electronic use. Assist with student and teacher program evaluations.
2. Act as the liaison between Mia’s Art Adventure Program and Art Adventure school coordinators.
- Provide consultations by phone, e-mail, and in-person to Art Adventure coordinators and school volunteers. Consultations are in regard to volunteer recruitment, school history, set content, classroom presentations, school tours, and related Mia online resources.
- Coordinate and conduct Picture Person Training online and at the museum including registration, correspondence, scheduling, setup, maintaining and ordering inventory, and recording related statistics.
- Conduct extensive research in order to write new and update existing curriculum materials.
- Teach and distribute new curriculum to museum volunteers.
- Promote the Art Adventure Program and other teacher resources to school administrators, teachers, and school volunteers by discussing the benefits of the program and providing information about program content and reservation procedures as needed.
- Perform general administrative and clerical duties for the Art Adventure Program.
3. Coordinate distribution of Art Adventure Program materials to the schools.
- This includes scheduling Art Adventure rentals, communicating with Art Adventure school coordinators and parent volunteers, maintaining reproductions and prop kits, training booklets, updating school records, and invoicing.
- Work with internal and external vendors to order materials.
4. Systems Maintenance: Work with IS to plan and implement Art Adventure scheduling and invoicing systems and/or enhance existing systems.
- Develop work plan and procedures for systems implementation and for acquiring thorough understanding of the system from a user’s perspective.
- Maintain Art Adventure data and be responsible for integrity of related Art Adventure data by running reports and examining content.
- Act as lead staff contact for Art Adventure data.
- Identify and resolve any system problems. Notify and work with IS staff whenever necessary.
5. Assist with Mia Guide content development and training.
- As needed, research, write and train guides on new tours and other topics related to schools.
- Assist with connecting tour program staff and volunteers with teachers and other resources.
6. Active member of Learning and Engagement team
- Research trends in museum education, school programs, and audience and audience profiles and needs.
- Represent Mia by sharing learning with colleagues across institutions and submitting conference proposals.
- Support other Learning and Engagement team members when possible.

Specific Requirements
Required:
- College degree or equivalent experience
- Completed Art History coursework
- Knowledge of a broad range of art history
- Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, and organizational skills
- Prior experience working with volunteers or school personnel
- Minimum 2 years’ office or related experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software
- Available for occasional Thursday evening work
- Must be able to lift at least 35 lbs.Preferred:
- Education-related coursework
- Experience with Salesforce
- Knowledge/experience with museum pedagogies highly preferred
