Utrecht School of the Arts ( HKU ) is the largest university of the arts in the Netherlands with 4400 students and is therefore also one of the largest in art, culture and creative industry-oriented knowledge institutes in Europe. HKU Design encourages students to take a position in tomorrow’s design field from the domains of product design, fashion and spatial design. Aspects such as materiality, sensory perception, imagination and the relationship with the other are important in this. Former students end up in a design-wide field in which traditional dividing lines between roles and disciplines are increasingly blurring due to changes in production processes, revenue models and sales markets, among other things.
The pedagogical-didactic vision is aimed at letting the student discover his / her / their place by experimenting, facilitating and innovating. There are three bachelor’s programs in Fashion, Product and Spatial, the master’s in Interior Architecture and the Associate degree in Connected Design. As a study leader at Design, you are part of the management team and, from the vision of the school management, you give the teaching team of the Associate degree program.
What are you going to do?
- You create and maintain an innovative learning and working environment and community for our Associate degree students in collaboration with teachers, tutors, study leaders, students and director of the school;
- You are responsible for the quality of education, keep an eye on developments in the field and translate these together with the teachers into innovative and / or quirky challenging education;
- You have an eye for the artistic working environment in which our students develop, in which you mobilize, facilitate and enthuse teachers;
- You pay attention to the development and well-being of employees and students;
- You schedule teachers for education, consult with colleagues from the education agency and ensure the organization of the educational process on quality and content;
- You actively work with the lecturers to ensure that relevant contacts from the field are involved in the study program and the community;
- Preferably you are involved in the program as a teacher and you are ( mee ) responsible for selection and admission.
Who are you?
- You like to work with lecturers and other study leaders and can include lecturers in the ( educationalist ) developments and vision of the school;
- You are a tactical thinker and inspiring doer ( connect strategy to operation and then act );
- You listen, you can relate well to the various groups and you can make and maintain connections, both inside and outside HKU;
- You have experience in leading and coaching educational professionals in a team. You are able to delegate so that teachers have room to design and develop ( mee );
- You have experience with program and education development in a manufacturing environment ( mbo or hbo );
- You can deal with and think along with changing circumstances and the uncertainties that go with them;
- You have experience with budget control and preferably also with deployment planning;
- You have a master’s degree or comparable level of knowledge and a didactic ability ( or willingness to obtain it );
What do we offer?
A versatile position from mid-August in a dynamic and informal working environment, where you are expected to take your own responsibility. The appointment is for one year with a view to extension.
The gross monthly salary is – depending on education and experience – for full-time employment at least € 4,509, – and at most € 6,065, – ( scale 12 collective labor agreement ), excluding 8% holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus ( 8.3% ). The fringe benefits are excellent, with a favorable leave scheme, inclusion in the ABP pension fund and commuting travel expenses scheme.
