The Artist Course: Being & Business

If your art is about and from you, then it makes sense you need to get to know yourself to communicate strong messaging when it comes to propelling your art business forward.

A holistic approach to tapping into creative potential, exercising voice with purpose, and creative business development/refinement. This 40 day online immersion is sculpted to stimulate emerging & established artists in deepened purpose. 

It takes 40 days to formulate new habits and fully embody intentions. In this course, we provide you with all information you need to incubate or deepen/refine your creative practice as a business. The meditations, course structure & coursework is essential for anyone looking to further ignite their creative Self, build a new business in the creative industry, or level up their already existing creative business / artist practice. We will dive into multiple formats of creative voice refinement through research, routines, creation process, ritualism, journaling, mind-mapping, lectures, historiography, re-contextualization, community forums, guest lectures & more. This course provides an all-encompassing practice, which will leave an endless imprint on your value of Self and the work that you produce.

We have successfully transitioned this program to being 100% online due to the pandemic.

COURSE SYLLABUS:

Week 1 :: THE SELF ~ Developing rituals, identifying who/what, establishing deep purpose.

Week 2 :: THE CREATIVE CYCLE ~ Breaking through creative blocks, deepening the why, voice refinement.

Week 3 :: THE ARTIST ~ Artist Statements, Inventory/Catalog, Effective Portfolio Communication.

Week 4 :: THE BUSINESS ~ Business Plan, Marketing Strategies, Social Media, Contracts & Proposals, Writing & Securing Grants, Collaborations, Partnerships, Licensing, Fine Art Printing, Editions, Pricing, Large Brands/Sponsorship, Editorial Calendars, Time Management.

Week 5 :: THE “ARTWORLD” ~ Finding & Retaining Clients/Collectors, Press, Building Relationships with Galleries, Curators & Art Consultants, Navigating Art Fairs & other Artworld Exhibiting Opportunities (includes templates for craft fairs & other creative business exhibition/sales/marketing culture not specifically associated with fine art galleries).

Week 6 :: THE SURRENDER + TRUST ~ Maintaining rituals, developing instinct, mind-mapping, goal-setting & portfolio expansion.

Latela Curatorial has worked with 1,000+ Washington DC (DMV-area) artists & curators on projects over the past five years. Our art consultants have 10+ years of professional experience working in international galleries, fairs & museums across Europe – as well as – in globally recognized local museums such as the National Gallery of Art and the Freer & Sackler Galleries, and hold BA & MA degrees in Art History, Arts Management, and Curatorial Studies. Our art consultants travel regularly to global art fairs including Art New York every March, Art Miami every December, and diverse Biennial Fairs including Venice & Havana to name a few. Institution partnerships include Smithsonian, as our Director regularly travels with Smithsonian donors as an Art & Architecture Expert across Europe. Our ability to source for projects at various budgets and aesthetic comes with experience and refined expertise.

Every member of our team has a personal meditation practice and embodies the Latela Curatorial Ethos. Our team represents 10+ years of professional experience leading 1-on-1 and group meditations, reiki, asana, yin and other spirit-alignment gatherings.

HOST PROFILES:

Marta Staudinger has worked in multiple fine art capacities over the last decade as an Independent Curator and Artist, but also as an Art Professional in some of the most prominent art historical institutions including the National Bargello Museum in Florence Italy, the Antoni Tàpies Foundation in Barcelona, Spain, the Art Museum of the Americas and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. In 2014, Marta founded Latela Curatorial: an Art & Curatorial Lifestyle Boutique which provides art consultation to private collectors and commercial clients in the Washington DC region. In 2015, she opened the Latela Art Gallery, a multi-purpose space which serves as a curatorial office and client meeting space, artist studio and is also regularly activated for art exhibitions. The gallery has been voted Best Commercial Art Gallery in Washington DC in consecutively since its opening in 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019. In May 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Marta launched the GLB Memorial Fund for the Arts which provides financial support to woman artists and curators who reside in Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia to further advance women-led contemporary art initiatives. Marta divides her time wearing multiple hats as an Art Consultant, Curator, Gallerist, Artist & Art Historian. She travels regularly for curatorial projects + to lecture in Italy, Portugal and Spain as a Smithsonian Journeys Expert. 

As an artist, Marta explores themes of aura, becoming, breath, femininity, instinct, intuition, psyche, pulls between movement & stillness, radiance and sensuality with an interest to stimulate narratives of power, vulnerability and balance. Her process focuses on conceptual archeology, archiving & archetyping via the mediums of painting, sculpture, photo, video and performance. With five years of experience teaching yoga and leading group meditations (Kundalini, Dharma and Baptiste courses and trainings), and a background on art history research methods, Marta embodies a holistic approach to the deepening of the artist Self & practice.

Meghan Masius has specific experience manifesting and executing vision in the Artworld on an institutional, gallery, residency, art fair and artist practice level. With a MA degree in Arts Management, Meghan was an integral part of the development of an artist residency space in London, UK, has worked as an art consultant advising collectors and collections, and most recently worked at the Smithsonian Freer & Sackler Galleries. Meghan excels advising artists on how to streamline their practices and reach specific exhibition goals. Meghan currently lives in New York City and is the Studio Manager for artist Adam Pendleton.
