Africa Basel is seeking curators and art mediators to join the second edition of its international art fair dedicated to contemporary art from the African continent and its diaspora.

The fair will take place at Klybeck 610 in Basel and offers selected candidates the opportunity to guide visitors through the fair while communicating the ideas, artists, and exhibitions presented during one of the art world’s busiest weeks.

About the Role

As a Tour Guide, you will act as a key link between the artworks, the audience, and the overall fair experience. Guides will welcome guests, conduct tours, and independently prepare engaging and accessible presentations related to the participating artists and exhibitions.

The role involves working within an international team while gaining behind-the-scenes insight into a major international contemporary art fair.

Responsibilities

Welcome and assist guests during the fair
Conduct guided tours throughout the event
Independently prepare and communicate exhibition content
Engage with international visitors
Represent Africa Basel professionally to the public

Candidate Profile

Studies in art history, art education, African Studies, or related fields are considered an advantage but are not mandatory
Strong interest in contemporary art and cultural mediation
Interest in or connection to the African continent and its diaspora
Open, proactive, and communicative personality
Confidence interacting with diverse audiences
Good German and/or English skills
Reliable, resilient, and self-motivated
