CIMAM Travel Grant – 58th CIMAM Annual Conference, Harare, Zimbabwe

CIMAM invites curators, researchers, and museum professionals working in modern and contemporary art museums from eligible countries to apply for a Travel Grant to attend the 58th CIMAM Annual Conference. The 2026 conference will take place from 20–22 November in Harare under the theme Museums Beyond Limits: Imagining Repair Across Cultures, Ecologies and Knowledges, marking CIMAM’s first Annual Conference on the African continent.
Eligibility Criteria
- Directors, curators, researchers, or independent professionals in modern and contemporary art museums with less than 10 years of experience (priority for junior professionals).
- Must reside in countries with emerging or developing economies (Groups C, D, E according to ICOM classification).
- Applicants must not be engaged in commercial art dealing or profit-driven gallery work.
- Previous CIMAM Travel Grant recipients are eligible only after 3 years since their last award.

- Motivation statement
- List of exhibitions and publications from the last 5 years
- Two recommendation letters (unless current CIMAM member)
- Applications must be submitted in English via the online platform
Selection Process
- Evaluated by CIMAM Travel Grants Committee based on financial need, professional relevance, and potential benefit.
- Selection ensures fairness and equal opportunity regardless of race, gender, or religion.
Grant Benefits
- Conference registration and access to all sessions, lunches, dinners, and organized visits
- Travel expenses (train, bus, or round-trip economy flight)
- Four-night accommodation
- CIMAM membership (2026–28)
- Getty Foundation Awardees receive an extended program: early arrival, additional accommodation, dinner, and per diems
Responsibilities for Awardees
- Actively engage with CIMAM and contribute to its international network
- Submit a post-conference report
- Optionally support breakout sessions, act as CIMAM Ambassadors, or nominate practices for awards
