Introduction
The Kupferstichkabinett at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin proudly announces a grant from the Getty Foundation. This grant supports the Paper Project initiative, focusing on prints and drawings. It funds a travel seminar on Lucas Cranach’s art, in cooperation with Dresden’s Kupferstich-Kabinett. The seminar invites applications until 10 March 2024.
Seminar Overview
The seminar, running from 26 May to 1 June 2024, targets early and mid-career curators interested in German old master art, particularly 16th-century works on paper. It also welcomes young academics from related fields. The event will cover a broad spectrum of Cranach’s work, including underdrawings and paintings. It aims to enhance understanding through current research and prepare for upcoming exhibitions in 2027.
Program Details
Participants will engage in workshops at both Berlin and Dresden’s Kupferstichkabinett. The itinerary includes visits to significant galleries and historical sites across Berlin and Dresden. Three Cranach experts will mentor the group, guiding discussions and presentations related to the art studied.
Eligibility and Application
The seminar seeks curators, research assistants, advanced doctoral students, and independent researchers with experience in museums or similar institutions. Applicants should have a focus on 16th-century German old masters or related historical contexts.
Applications must include a CV, a statement of interest (up to 1000 words), and a reference contact. A joint jury from Berlin and Dresden will select 12 participants. Applications should be sent in PDF format to m.mallach[at]smb-spk-berlin.de by 10 March 2024, with notifications by 12 April 2024.
