Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internships

The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program offers paid summer internships at museums and visual arts organizations across Los Angeles. The program is designed to expose college students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the arts to careers in museums and visual arts organizations. No prior work experience or formal education in the arts is required.

Interns are placed in core areas of museum work, including curatorship, conservation, education, publications, and public programming, gaining practical experience and professional exposure to arts careers. Since 1993, the program has hosted over 3,800 interns across 190 institutions, significantly influencing participants’ decisions to pursue long-term careers in the arts.

Internship Format

  • Duration: 10 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) during June–August 2026

  • Stipend: $7,150 for the full internship period

  • Location: Getty Center (Brentwood), Getty Villa (Malibu), and 50+ LA-area arts institutions

  • Mandatory educational components: Arts Summit and two Learning Community events

  • Opportunities to engage directly with museum staff and arts professionals

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduate students (associate’s or bachelor’s) enrolled at a higher education institution, having completed at least one semester or two quarters

  • Students must attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DACA recipient

  • Students from all disciplines encouraged; interest in museums and visual arts professions is essential

  • Participation at a different host organization is required for repeat interns

Terms & Outcomes

  • Interns develop professional skills, network with arts professionals, and gain familiarity with museums and arts organizations

  • Interns are expected to contribute perspectives from their diverse backgrounds, including socio-economic, cultural, disability, or geographic experience

  • Program encourages continued exploration of careers in museums and arts institutions
