The University of Vienna invites applications for a University Assistant Predoctoral position at the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies. The selected candidate will support the research project “The Dynamics of Change: The Sculptural Oeuvre of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna”, led by Prof. Assaf Pinkus. The project examines the cathedral’s sculptural program from the 13th to 15th centuries, focusing on spatial, performative, and functional contexts.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct research in the context of the project and pursue a PhD dissertation

Complete a dissertation agreement within 12–18 months

Teach independently as per the collective agreement

Support administrative tasks in research and teaching
Candidate Profile
-
MA or diploma in Art History (completed by 1 September 2025)

Background in medieval art and visual/material culture
-
Academic writing and research experience

C1 level English; German desirable, other languages (Italian, French, Czech) an asset

Experience with interdisciplinary methods and e-learning platforms

Strong social and teamworking skills
