The British Museum is seeking a talented, creative and dynamic individual to lead on planning and delivery of its ground-breaking programme of temporary exhibitions. Working in close collaboration with colleagues across the Museum, as well as designers, contractors, and external partners, this is an exciting opportunity to play a proactive role in the strategic development of innovative, audience-focused exhibitions as part of the Museum’s wider public engagement programme.
Leading the Exhibitions team, the post-holder will be involved in the day-to-day detail of exhibition-making and should bring a robust financial and project management background to the role, as well as a commitment to strong design and interpretation.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- To lead and manage the planning and delivery of exhibitions, temporary displays, and other projects as part of the Museum’s wider public engagement activities and in line with major strategic plans and objectives (i.e. the Rosetta Project).
- To collaborate with colleagues across the Museum to ensure exhibitions are effectively coordinated, with financial and other strategic targets achieved.
- To deliver high quality, innovative, audience-focused exhibitions within timing, budget and resource constraints, with appropriate risk management.
- To work with the Exhibitions Programme Board to develop and plan the forward programme.
- To lead on the management of marketing and other graphic print design across the Museum.
- To develop and maintain relationships with important external partners and stakeholders.
- To lead, motivate, and develop the Exhibitions department.
