Whitechapel Gallery
An exciting opportunity has arisen to become the new Director’s Assistant at the Whitechapel Gallery. Joining at a transformational moment in the Gallery’s 120-year history, the individual will work closely with its new Director Gilane Tawadros, its committed Trustees and staff. The Director’s Assistant will join our team as we embark on a journey towards creating a distinctive, radically different voice for the Gallery as a leading cultural institution in the twenty-first century.
The opportunity to be involved at the heart of the Gallery’s work requires a candidate with substantial experience in a similar role that requires the prioritisation and coordination of tasks with a methodological approach. This role can be demanding, so you must have a proactive work ethic and exceptional time management to adapt to a complex, rapidly changing environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy will help you provide the interface between the Director, internal colleagues, and external stakeholders. The Director’s Assistant acts as the custodian of several high-level relationships and thus is responsible for providing due diligence, sensitivity, and administrative support to aid these relationships. You will need to be responsible, confident, and motivated. You will have a unique position within the Gallery, with the opportunity to collaborate across every department. As a crucial representative of the Gallery, you will act as a point of contact for special visitors, either in person or through correspondence. And, of course, the individual should be a passionate advocate of Whitechapel Gallery and demonstrate the ability to inspire others to support its mission.
